One of the many joys of working in a flower shop is that no two days are the same - with different varieties arriving daily, the display is a smorgasbord - which in turn means new creations are constantly crafted. At this time of year, we can expect lots of two-tone hydrangeas, berries, and the last of the fabulous dahlias along with evergreen stems such as roses, waxflower, and lisanthus. There’s nothing quite like unboxing gems that have arrived with us when everyone is sleeping - part of the joy is marveling at the smallest idiosyncrasies (we really are flower fanatics) - a single tied-dyed petal, a double-headed specimen or the simplicity of a perfect Marguerite daisy. This week our heads were turned by a bundle of jiggling campanula.
With a momentary pause on sweeping autumnal hues, the haze of pastel lilac and pink was enough to set our florist hearts a flutter. There is something so cheerful about these stems - whether you think the flower head looks like a dainty bell or a sweet bonnet. Part of their charm is the gentle movement of the flowerheads - a welcome addition to garden-style gathering, or en masse as modeled by our brilliant florist, Annie.
